Magic Pen – Draw Your World

Magic Pen

In what looks like an 80% “repurposing” of Crayon Physics, Magic Pen is a puzzle game that allows you to draw your own freeform physical objects in order to manipulate existing objects — namely, nudging the red ball to the flag. But in a unique twist, you can create pins & hinges (which, in practice, is more fun than it sounds) to generate moving parts that are essential in later levels.

Anyone who’s seen the demo on my iPhone, iPhysics (another demo inspired by C.P.), may recognize this as well. Sans the very cool turning-the-phone-to-change-gravity effect.

Ten Thousand Cents

Ten Thousand Cents

Check out Ten Thousand Cents, a Mechanical Turk project.  Each participant was paid a penny to draw one section of a hundred dollar bill.  Ten thousand of these images, at one cent apiece, make up $100 (clever).  U.S. users spent just under 3 minutes, on average, creating their little slice.  That’s less than $0.20/hour for those keeping score at home.

Of course, this is a fun and interesting experiment, but still… How much is your time worth?

American Idol Loves Everyone

The night has finally arrived. The evening all American Idol fans have been longing for all season. It’s the night… Idol Gives Crap Back.

Yes, folks, get ready to be mildly entertained by the likes of Teri Hatcher and Forest Whitaker. OMG THEY’RE BOTH GOING TO BE ON THE SAME SHOW.

Personally, I don’t know how this guy (see video) didn’t make it to the Top Ten. Diamond Dave FTW!

The Dumbing Of America

Susan Jacoby of the Washington Post recently lamented on The Dumbing Of America. She claims that Americans are not only becoming more and more ignorant, but increasingly proud of that said ignorance. “Anti-Rationalism” and “Anti-Intellectualism” are part of the new American Way – do you agree?

Personally, I think it’s one of the defining characteristics of what I call The IM Generation. The people entering today’s workforce have been weened on insta-culture, and simply do not pay attention to the basics… like, oh, spelling simple words correctly. Take a look around… I’ve noticed far more misspellings and simple grammar mistakes in the news, on billboards, commercials, etc. in the past 5 years or so then I’ve ever seen. Signs, often literally, of the vanishing attention span of America.

Marble Madness!

Contour Flash Game
Raise your hand if you remember the game Marble Madness. Uh huh… 1, 2… ok. Well, today’s Flash Friday should help you get your nostalgia on…

Contour takes the Madness and gives it a great twist. Instead of moving the orbital sphere itself to the destination, you must raise the ground beneath, and let gravity nudge it to the goal.

This one’s all about planning and timing.
